What is the Purchase Power Adjustment (PPA)?
The Purchase Power Adjustment (PPA) serves as a way to recover the cost of supplemental power purchased by the Village of Penn Yan Electric. The PPA fluctuates monthly, and is adjusted up and down based on the power bills received by Penn Yan for supplemental power. This allows Penn Yan to recover these continually changing charges, without having to file new rates annually with the Public Service Commission. These costs passed on to the customer are at no profit or loss to the Penn Yan Electric Fund. Click the link above for more information about the PPA. Statement to Members Regarding Ontario Tariffs
"Approximately 86% of Penn Yan’s electricity is from Niagara hydro (the source of all of our hydro power – none of it comes from Canada) and most of the rest comes from nuclear (also principally generated within New York State). Any increase in the price of power from Canada, if it were to occur, would have, if any, only a negligible impact on the cost of Penn Yann’s supplemental power under certain high demand conditions (there would be no impact on the price of its Niagara hydro). Penn Yan is at no risk of having its power cut off. Any talk of tariffs on Canadian power is irrelevant to Penn Yan’s access to both Niagara hydro and market power." |
